When you buy a SD Card or USB stick price is probably the number one factor when deciding what and where to buy. But I urge you not. Price shouldn’t be the only factor when you decide which cheapest SD Card yields most storage for you. Instead, you should take a closer look at some of your SD Cards if they are actually worth the money you put, because when you try to save money by buying a ridiculous great deal (so you thought cheap) SD Card you are actually wasting money. Why? Because you get for what you paid.
That being said, don’t get me wrong that there are tons legit deals on SD Cards that are decent and yield good results. What I want to show you today is how to identify those fake and fraud SD Cards in terms of their advertised storage capacity and read/write speed. If you have a SD Card or USB drive, you can use this program called H2testw to test it out. (link is a translated version from German to English)
This works with pretty much any drive, not just SD Card or USB. But specifically you can use it to test out if a given SD Card actually does contain what it says how much it can store.
H2testw, is one of many tools I’ve tried that yields the best usable experience and results in terms of finding defecting SD Cards. Follow along you will see why.
Here is an example of me trying to run a test of a 64GB Micro SD Card that I got from eBay.
What this program will do is essentially to fill up the SD Card with files and later read back and verify the files not only writable but also readable.
At this stage the test has passed the write part. But at the next stage, you will discover the SD Card can only read back the initial 7.8 GB of the file. All the rest of the file is corrupted, as a result you will lose all the data after the initial 7.8GB.
Warning: Only 63959 of 63968 MByte tested.
The media is likely to be defective.
7.8 GByte OK (16499089 sectors)
54.5 GByte DATA LOST (114488943 sectors)
Details:64 KByte overwritten (128 sectors)
0 KByte slightly changed (< 8 bit/sector, 0 sectors)
54.5 GByte corrupted (114488815 sectors)
64 KByte aliased memory (128 sectors)
First error at offset: 0x00000000000bb408
Expected: 0x000bb40000af8c11
Found: 0x000bb40000afcc11
H2testw version 1.3
Reading speed: 2.39 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
What have we learned? If you have a spare SD Card around and would like to use it to take photos or store files. Make sure the SD Card is legit. If you have the time it’s worthwhile to first verify if the SD Card indeed can hold the amount of data it’s advertised to. The same program would work for any other removable media. Make sure you make a backup copy prior running full test.

✔ Show storage type: eMMC, UFS 2.0 and 2.1 or higher
✔ Show class: Class 2, Class 4, Class 6, Class 10, UHS-I, UHS-II and UHS-III
✔ Supporting several file systems like ext4, exFAT or FAT/FAT32.
✔ Support portable and adoptable storage as well
✔ Show storage details: free space, total space, mount options, device name
Supported memory cards:
* Basically any sd cards: Micro SD, SDHC and SDXC
* built-in memory (card)
Good to know:
✔ If the sd card is formatted as adoptable storage, the app may unable to access it directly. In that case either move the app to the adoptable storage (change the install storage), or format the storage as portable storage.
Note: if you measure slow speed, this is not the fault of the app. This is the reality of your phone.
Common reasons: fake sd card, slow sd card reader/hardware problems of the phone, software problems.
Easy to use even for beginners. Quick tests.

Top ListTools15+ Free Tools To Check The Speed Of Your USB Flash Drive..
If you already have a USB flash drive then you could determine how fast they actually are. Here in this article, we are going to show you 8 free tools that let you check the benchmark performance of your USB flash drives or SD cards.
Well, whenever we purchase a new piece of computer hardware, whether it’s RAM, hard drive, CPU etc, one of the factors that will help to determine our purchasing decision would be the performance.
We can take an example of SSD drives, SSD drives are replacing HDD because they offer better read/write speeds. Something similar happens when we purchase a USB flash drive. We must remember that USB flash drives are not all made equal.
For example, if you buy a slow USB flash drive which has a huge capacity, then it would take hours to fill it up completely. This is not only frustrating but could be a waste of money and time.
If you already have a USB flash drive then you could determine how fast they actually are. Suppose, if you have 16GB flash drive that writes at 3-4Mb/s then it would take a while to fill, whereas if you have faster USB 3 flash drive then it could complete the task in few minutes.

Due to low speed of writing/reading on a SD card the performance of the device in which this SD card is inserted can be significantly slowed down.
We got used to the fact that our gadget can be extremely slow because of software problems, but we forgot about the impact of iron on interface responsiveness. This is an unforgivable mistake, which you can correct via speed test software for different platforms. They will also help you to check your flash drive real capabilities:
It's easy to test the speed of your memory card without any instructions via each of the listed above programs. The results, as proven by an independent testing, are quite the same. But please bear in mind that many things can affect the final result of carried measurements: starting with how much space is left on a sd and finishing with the amount of tester-device core memory.
Android apps check sd card speed (reading/writing)
A1 SD Bench
The most powerful among free apps for testing the speed of i/o on devices running under Android operating system. The interface is designed in a classic benchmark style for devices with touchscreen displays: Main features are shown on the main screen, when additional ones can be found in the sidebar.
The app has 4 modes of micro sd card speed testing:
- An express (Quick),
- Standard (Long),
- Highly-accurate (Accurate),
- Random one (Random I/O).
The results of each indicator can be anonymously shared with other users. The developers claim that the app supports memory cards with such standards as: Class 2, Class 4, Class 6, Class 10, UHS-I, UHS-II and UHS-III.
SD Card Test Pro
A paid solution for professional testing of sd card write speed, i/o features of memory cards of all popular formats, including mobile device internal storage.
After paying just $2 you get:
- custom speed testing in quick and standard modes;
- several types of custom tests to verify sd / microsd card;
- detailed charts based on specified parameters.
Disk Speed/Performance Test
Another interesting sd card speed test tool which can fix the performance of writing and reading on different types of sd memory storage.
Available for free:
- custom-made and standardized tests of memory card speed,

H2testw
A compact utility for testing the sd card read speed made by German developers.
After launching it only there is only one button available on the screen and it's the one via which you choose a storage device for testing. In the results (the log) only the actual amount of memory and the real speed of writing/reading are shown. There is nothing more. A great option for testing / verifying sd cards, flash drives from AliExpress for how real the claimed characteristics are.
CrystalDiskMark
A computer program capable of measuring the speed of a memory card under different conditions: while watching videos, downloading information, working with apps and etc.
Sd Card Speed Tester Pc
Its shell looks very simple: on the main screen you can find only the button for running a test with the possibility of choosing a storage device, the results contain a table with the numbers shown in megabytes per second.
Perfect solution for a simple user testing of a sd card speed. But if you want to perform more serious data analysis, you need a more powerful utility.
SD Card Speed
An app for measuring the speed of memory cards and usb flash drives. The calculations are made in a simple way: The program records a large file on a flash drive and adds data to it, simultaneously measuring how long it takes to add each byte of information. The result is shown in a simple table form. You can keep the statistics of measurements on one or several cards, but it isn't very convenient.
Sd Card Speed Test Linux
Flash Memory Toolkit
Sd Card Speed Test Software
SD card speed test software for working with flash drives. In addition to testing the speed of a memory card, this software is capable of erasing data and recovering previously deleted information. The buttons for switching between screens are located in the left menu, but directly for testing you need only the two low buttons: Low-level benchmark and File benchmark analyze the speed of processing and writing files correspondingly.
